92_SB0397 LRB9207627ARsb 1 AN ACT concerning firearms. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Firearm Owners Identification Card Act is 5 amended by adding Section 8.5 as follows: 6 (430 ILCS 65/8.5 new) 7 Sec. 8.5. Department to check criminal history every six 8 months. 9 (a) The Department shall, for every person to whom a 10 Firearm Owner's Identification Card is issued, inquire with 11 LEADS and the National Crime Information Center to ascertain 12 whether or not the person has been convicted of any of the 13 offenses enumerated in Section 8 of this Act that would 14 disqualify him or her from holding a Firearm Owner's 15 Identification Card. This inquiry shall be done once every 16 six months. If the inquiry reveals that the person has been 17 convicted of any of the disqualifying offenses enumerated in 18 Section 8 of this Act, the Department shall immediately send 19 written notice to the person as required by Section 9 of this 20 Act and revoke the person's Card. 21 (b) As used in this Section, "LEADS" is the Law 22 Enforcement Agencies Data System, a statewide repository of 23 criminal history record information maintained by the 24 Department. 25 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 26 becoming law.
