AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 3062

AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 3062 by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the following:

"Section 5. The Medical Practice Act of 1987 is amended by adding Section 22.6 as follows:

(225 ILCS 60/22.6 new)

Sec. 22.6. Bone marrow registry inquiry; information.

(a) A physician may inquire of a new patient who is 18 years of age or older and under 45 years of age, on a new patient intake form, whether the patient is registered with a bone marrow registry. If the patient states that he or she is not registered with a bone marrow registry, then the physician shall provide to the patient information developed under subsection (b).

(b) The Department of Public Health shall develop and disseminate information regarding a bone marrow registry. The information shall include, but is not limited to:

(1) the need for bone marrow donations;

(2) patient populations that benefit from bone marrow donations;

(3) how to join a bone marrow registry; and

(4) how to acquire a free buccal swab kit from a bone marrow registry.

(c) The provision of information under subsection (a) and the dissemination of information under subsection (b) may be made orally, in print, electronically, or by any other method.

(d) The Department of Public Health may adopt rules to implement this Section.".
