| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Helen Kay Jahn of Champaign, who | 4 | | passed away on June 12, 2022; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jahn was born in Springfield to Lloyd and | 6 | | Elizabeth Woods Hosler on December 11, 1942; she graduated | 7 | | from Cahokia High School and completed secretarial school at | 8 | | Miss Hickey's Secretarial School in St. Louis; she later | 9 | | attended Parkland College; she married Francis J. "Jerry" at | 10 | | Faith Methodist Church in Cahokia on August 31, 1963; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jahn was the organist and choir director at | 12 | | Faith Methodist Church in Cahokia prior to her marriage; after | 13 | | moving to Champaign-Urbana she was a member of the choir at | 14 | | Wesley Methodist Church in Urbana, where she was a soloist and | 15 | | member of the choir for many years; her love of music led her | 16 | | to become active in the Guild of the Champaign Urbana | 17 | | Symphony; she served on the board for many years, as president | 18 | | for two terms and as chair of the Ways and Means Committee for | 19 | | many years; she was active in organizing and executing House | 20 | | Walks, In Good Taste parties, and other fundraising activities | 21 | | for the guild; as a result of her tireless efforts on behalf of | 22 | | the guild and C-U Symphony Orchestra, she received the | 23 | | Volunteer of the Year Award from the Illinois Council of |

| 1 | | Orchestras in 2012; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jahn joined Faith United Methodist Church | 3 | | in 1971 and was active in various activities and church | 4 | | groups; she was a member and president of the Kathryn Wood | 5 | | Circle, member and president of the United Methodist Women's | 6 | | Group at Faith, member of the board of trustees, and a long | 7 | | time chairperson of the Worship Committee; she later became | 8 | | involved in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference United | 9 | | Methodist Women and served two terms as president of the | 10 | | Iroquois District UMW; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jahn served on the board of directors of | 12 | | Cunningham Children's Home for a total of 16 years and served | 13 | | two terms as president; after her board service, she continued | 14 | | to volunteer at Cunningham, helping with various fundraising | 15 | | activities; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jahn played tennis, golf, and snow skied | 17 | | into her mid-70s; she played bridge in several different | 18 | | groups and enjoyed playing and teaching others to play | 19 | | cribbage; she was an ardent Illini fan and attended football | 20 | | and basketball games since moving to Champaign-Urbana; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jahn was a wonderful wife, mother, and | 22 | | grandmother and never missed an opportunity to follow her |

| 1 | | children's and grandchildren's school and sporting events; she | 2 | | was a Cub Scout leader, room mother, and co-president of the | 3 | | Bottenfield School PTA; she spent her entire life serving | 4 | | others, sharing her beautiful smile and showing kindness to | 5 | | all she encountered; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jahn was preceded in death by her parents; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jahn is survived by her husband, Jerry; her | 9 | | son, Michael Jahn; her daughter, Amy (Ed) Dyson; her | 10 | | grandchildren, Stephen and Marybeth Dyson; her sister, Susan | 11 | | (Alain) Lamoureux; her sister-in-law, Janet Jahn; her | 12 | | brother-in-law, Larry (Gloria) Jahn; four nieces; three | 13 | | great-nephews; two great-nieces; and her beloved West Highland | 14 | | Terrier, Duffy; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 17 | | Helen Kay Jahn and extend our sincere condolences to her | 18 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 19 | | further
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 | | presented to the family of Helen Jahn as an expression of our | 22 | | deepest sympathy.
