SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Helen Kay Jahn of Champaign, who
4passed away on June 12, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Jahn was born in Springfield to Lloyd and
6Elizabeth Woods Hosler on December 11, 1942; she graduated
7from Cahokia High School and completed secretarial school at
8Miss Hickey's Secretarial School in St. Louis; she later
9attended Parkland College; she married Francis J. "Jerry" at
10Faith Methodist Church in Cahokia on August 31, 1963; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Helen Jahn was the organist and choir director at
12Faith Methodist Church in Cahokia prior to her marriage; after
13moving to Champaign-Urbana she was a member of the choir at
14Wesley Methodist Church in Urbana, where she was a soloist and
15member of the choir for many years; her love of music led her
16to become active in the Guild of the Champaign Urbana
17Symphony; she served on the board for many years, as president
18for two terms and as chair of the Ways and Means Committee for
19many years; she was active in organizing and executing House
20Walks, In Good Taste parties, and other fundraising activities
21for the guild; as a result of her tireless efforts on behalf of
22the guild and C-U Symphony Orchestra, she received the
23Volunteer of the Year Award from the Illinois Council of

1Orchestras in 2012; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Helen Jahn joined Faith United Methodist Church
3in 1971 and was active in various activities and church
4groups; she was a member and president of the Kathryn Wood
5Circle, member and president of the United Methodist Women's
6Group at Faith, member of the board of trustees, and a long
7time chairperson of the Worship Committee; she later became
8involved in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference United
9Methodist Women and served two terms as president of the
10Iroquois District UMW; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Helen Jahn served on the board of directors of
12Cunningham Children's Home for a total of 16 years and served
13two terms as president; after her board service, she continued
14to volunteer at Cunningham, helping with various fundraising
15activities; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Helen Jahn played tennis, golf, and snow skied
17into her mid-70s; she played bridge in several different
18groups and enjoyed playing and teaching others to play
19cribbage; she was an ardent Illini fan and attended football
20and basketball games since moving to Champaign-Urbana; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Helen Jahn was a wonderful wife, mother, and
22grandmother and never missed an opportunity to follow her

1children's and grandchildren's school and sporting events; she
2was a Cub Scout leader, room mother, and co-president of the
3Bottenfield School PTA; she spent her entire life serving
4others, sharing her beautiful smile and showing kindness to
5all she encountered; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Helen Jahn was preceded in death by her parents;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Helen Jahn is survived by her husband, Jerry; her
9son, Michael Jahn; her daughter, Amy (Ed) Dyson; her
10grandchildren, Stephen and Marybeth Dyson; her sister, Susan
11(Alain) Lamoureux; her sister-in-law, Janet Jahn; her
12brother-in-law, Larry (Gloria) Jahn; four nieces; three
13great-nephews; two great-nieces; and her beloved West Highland
14Terrier, Duffy; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Helen Kay Jahn and extend our sincere condolences to her
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Helen Jahn as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
