AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1695

AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1695 by replacing everything after the enacting clause with the following:

"Section 5. The Legislative Commission Reorganization Act of 1984 is amended by adding Section 8A-60 as follows:

(25 ILCS 130/8A-60 new)

Sec. 8A-60. State historic site.

(a) The Architect of the Capitol, in cooperation with the Secretary of State, shall place and maintain a historical marker at a suitable location on the grounds of the Capitol Complex. The marker shall commemorate and memorialize: (1) the role of Illinois women in initiating the achievement of nationwide voting equality within the United States of America; and (2) the position of Illinois as the first state to ratify the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, the legal document that guaranteed votes for women without discrimination on account of sex.

(b) Moneys from the Capitol Restoration Trust Fund may be used to place and maintain the historical marker.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.".
