AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1695

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1695 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Legislative Commission Reorganization Act
5of 1984 is amended by adding Section 8A-60 as follows:
 
6    (25 ILCS 130/8A-60 new)
7    Sec. 8A-60. State historic site.
8    (a) The Architect of the Capitol shall apply to the
9Department of Natural Resources under the provisions of Section
101 of the Historical Sites Listing Act to have the State Capitol
11Building listed as a State historic site with respect to its
12location as the site of the vote to make Illinois the first
13state to ratify the 19th Amendment to the United States
14Constitution on June 10, 1919.
15    (b) The Architect of the Capitol, in cooperation with the
16Secretary of State and the Department of Natural Resources,

1shall place and maintain a historical marker at a suitable
2location on the grounds of the State Capitol Building. The
3marker shall commemorate and memorialize: (1) the role of
4Illinois women in initiating the achievement of nationwide
5voting equality within the United States of America; and (2)
6the position of Illinois as the first state to ratify the 19th
7Amendment to the United States Constitution, the legal document
8that guaranteed votes for women without discrimination on
9account of sex.
10    (c) Moneys from the Capitol Restoration Trust Fund may be
11used to place and maintain the historical marker.
 
12    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
13becoming law.".
