AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1063

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1063 on page 1, line
3 5 by deleting ", 2-104,"; and
 
4 on page 2, by replacing lines 15 through 33 with the following:
5             "(a) Discrimination on the Basis of Religion. Any
6         church, synagogue, mosque, any religious or
7         denominational corporation, association, educational
8         institution, society, or non-profit nursing
9         institution conducted by and for those who rely upon
10         treatment by prayer through spiritual means in
11         accordance with the tenets of a recognized church or
12         religious denomination with respect to the employment
13         of individuals of a particular religion to perform any
14         work, whether religious or secular, for the church,
15         synagogue, mosque, religious or denominational
16         corporation, association, educational institution,
17         society, or non-profit nursing institution conducted
18         by and for those who rely upon treatment by prayer
19         through spiritual means in accordance with the tenets
20         of a recognized church or religious denomination work
21         connected with the carrying on by such corporation,
22         association, educational institution, society or
23         non-profit nursing institution of its activities.
24             (b) Discrimination on any Basis. Any church,
25         synagogue, mosque, religious or denominational

1         corporation, association, educational institution,
2         society, or non-profit nursing institution conducted
3         by and for those who rely upon treatment by prayer
4         through spiritual means in accordance with the tenets
5         of a recognized church or religious denomination with
6         respect to the employment of individuals of a
7         particular race, color, religion, national origin,
8         ancestry, age, sex, marital status, disability,
9         military status, sexual orientation, or discharge from
10         military service to perform work that is important to
11         the spiritual and pastoral mission of the church. Work
12         is important to the spiritual and pastoral mission of
13         the church if the employee's primary duties consist of
14         teaching, spreading the faith, church governance,
15         supervision of a religious order, or supervision or
16         participation in religious ritual and worship. Work
17         that is important to the spiritual and pastoral mission
18         of the church includes, but is not limited to, the work
19         of clergy, choir directors, organists, and seminary
20         faculty."; and
 
21 by deleting lines 31 through 35 on page 4, all of pages 5
22 through 9, and lines 1 through 30 on page 10.
