SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joan T. Nielsen of Joliet, who passed away on May 29, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Joan Nielsen was born and raised in Joliet; she graduated from St. Francis Academy in 1946; and

WHEREAS, Joan Nielsen enjoyed volunteering in the surgical wing at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center; she was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order O.F.S., the Catholic Women's League, the Fraternity of St. Anthony, the Paulites, and the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus; she attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, Joan Nielsen was a longtime Lockport resident before relocating back to Joliet in 1998; she was a prayerful, mediative person who always thought of the needs of others before her own while in prayer; and

WHEREAS, Joan Nielsen was preceded by her husband, Herluf R. "Bob" Nielsen Jr.; her son, Robert William Nielsen; her parents, William and Mary (Callaghan) Burt; her sister, Marilyn Long; and her brother, William (Phyllis) Burt; and

WHEREAS, Joan Nielsen is survived by her daughters, Jeanne (Jack) Phelan, Eileen (Larry) Whitgrove, and Annette (Dennis) Berman; her sons, Thomas (Candy) and James (Noreen) Nielsen; her grandchildren, Brian (Tricia) Phelan, John (Blanca) Phelan, Elizabeth (Jason) Schaedel, Larry Whitgrove, Annie Whitgrove, Danielle (Matthew) Sheehy, Mari (Thomas) Cerven, Erin (Ryan Killian) Berman, Brendan Nielsen, Christian Nielsen, Colin Nielsen, Haley Nielsen, and Dylan Nielsen; her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kendall, Jordan, Devin, Sophia, Johnny, Anthony, Colten, Francesca, Cristiano, and Thomas; and a very special brother-in-law, Robert Long; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joan T. Nielsen and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joan Nielsen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
