SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David N. Bernstrom of Port Byron, who passed away on September 7, 2020; and

WHEREAS, David Bernstrom was born in Moline to Nils and Leona (Petersen) Bernstrom on November 24, 1933; he married Mary Wiese in Moline on August 14, 1965; he served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict; after being honorably discharged, he served another 8 years in the National Guard; and

WHEREAS, David Bernstrom worked as a union carpenter until he retired in 1997; and

WHEREAS, David Bernstrom was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Seagoing Marine Association; alongside his wife, he enjoyed traveling across the United States and to many foreign countries after his retirement; he also enjoyed gardening, raising bumper crops of tomatoes, and tinkering around his shop; and

WHEREAS, David Bernstrom was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Breckling; and

WHEREAS, David Bernstrom is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters, Shannan (Mark) O'Connor and Susan (Dave) Burke; his son, David Bernstrom Jr. (Caciona); his 6 grandchildren, Katie Burke, Brian Burke, Maggie Burke, Kevin Burke, Nils Bernstrom, and Serafina Bernstrom; and his sister, Susan Foster; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David N. Bernstrom and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Bernstrom as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
