SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kimberly Joy "Kim" Barnes of Canton, who passed away on March 17, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Kim Barnes was born in Galesburg to Carolyn K. Stevens and Gale (Gloria) Schisler on October 2, 1958; she graduated from Spoon River Valley High School in 1976; she loved to learn; and

WHEREAS, Kim Barnes owned and operated the Fairview Cafe for over 20 years; she loved seeing familiar, smiling faces every day; prior to that, she held various jobs; and

WHEREAS, Kim Barnes was a Gold Star Mother and an Honorary Member of the Fairview American Legion Auxiliary for her volunteer services; she participated in the Rolling Thunder ride to Washington, D.C. and also attended the Native American Veteran's Pow Wow every year she was able; she was an avid supporter of veterans and fought to keep them safe upon their return home; she was the first to volunteer when needed and was known for donating her delicious pies; she was a fan of the Rolling Stones and loved rock-n-roll music, animals, and horseback riding; she always carried a book and encouraged others to read; she loved and cherished her grandchildren and spent as much time as she could with them; and

WHEREAS, Kim Barnes was preceded in death by her son, PFC Aaron Barnes; and her sister, Jill Sherwood; and

WHEREAS, Kim Barnes is survived by her parents; her son, Corey Barnes; her daughter-in-law, Mandy Davis; her brother, Kurt Schisler; her grandchildren, Melody Barnes and Emmalynne and David Barnes; and Laura Ramage, whom she loved like a daughter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kimberly Joy "Kim" Barnes and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kim Barnes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
