SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Kimberly Joy "Kim" Barnes of Canton, who
4passed away on March 17, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Kim Barnes was born in Galesburg to Carolyn K.
6Stevens and Gale (Gloria) Schisler on October 2, 1958; she
7graduated from Spoon River Valley High School in 1976; she
8loved to learn; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Kim Barnes owned and operated the Fairview Cafe
10for over 20 years; she loved seeing familiar, smiling faces
11every day; prior to that, she held various jobs; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Kim Barnes was a Gold Star Mother and an Honorary
13Member of the Fairview American Legion Auxiliary for her
14volunteer services; she participated in the Rolling Thunder
15ride to Washington, D.C. and also attended the Native American
16Veteran's Pow Wow every year she was able; she was an avid
17supporter of veterans and fought to keep them safe upon their
18return home; she was the first to volunteer when needed and was
19known for donating her delicious pies; she was a fan of the
20Rolling Stones and loved rock-n-roll music, animals, and
21horseback riding; she always carried a book and encouraged
22others to read; she loved and cherished her grandchildren and

1spent as much time as she could with them; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Kim Barnes was preceded in death by her son, PFC
3Aaron Barnes; and her sister, Jill Sherwood; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Kim Barnes is survived by her parents; her son,
5Corey Barnes; her daughter-in-law, Mandy Davis; her brother,
6Kurt Schisler; her grandchildren, Melody Barnes and Emmalynne
7and David Barnes; and Laura Ramage, whom she loved like a
8daughter; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Kimberly Joy "Kim" Barnes and extend our sincere condolences to
12her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Kim Barnes as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
