Replaces provisions detailing the positions the Supreme Court may authorize the chief judge of any single county circuit to fill in administering each circuit's court reporters staff and itemizing maximum salaries to be paid for each position with a provision that the Supreme Court may authorize the chief judge to appoint an administrator of court reporters and such other administrative, secretarial, and support staff as may be necessary. LRB9011366SMdv SB1602 Engrossed LRB9011366SMdv 1 AN ACT to amend the Court Reporters Act by changing 2 Section 4.1. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Court Reporters Act is amended by 6 changing Section 4.1 as follows: 7 (705 ILCS 70/4.1) (from Ch. 37, par. 654.1) 8 Sec. 4.1. Appointment and Salary of Administrative 9 Personnel. 10 (a) The Supreme Court may authorize the chief judge of 11 any single county circuit in which official court reporting 12 services are centrally administered, (1)to appoint from 13 among the court reporters appointed in the circuit an 14 Administrator of Court Reporters and such other 15 administrative, secretarial, and support staff as may be 16 necessary, a Deputy Administrator of Court Reporters and 217Assistant Administrators of Court Reporters, (2) to designate18from among the court reporters appointed in the circuit one19Reporter Supervisor and one Assistant Reporter Supervisor for20each Department and Division of the circuit court, and (3) to21appoint secretarial and other support staff to assist the22Administrator. Each Administrator, Deputy Administrator,23Assistant Administrator, Reporter Supervisor, and Assistant24Reporter Supervisor shall have an "A" proficiency rating, by25examination, as provided in Section 7.26(b) Administrative personnel appointed under this27Section shall be paid by the State.28(1) In addition to their regular salary as official29court reporters, the administrative personnel appointed under30this Section shall be paid such additional sums as the31Supreme Court specifies. Such sums shall be included in theSB1602 Engrossed -2- LRB9011366SMdv 1pay schedule adopted pursuant to Section 8. The additional2amounts paid shall reflect the burden of administrative3responsibility borne by the administrative personnel and the4consequent lack of opportunity to produce transcripts of5testimony. The additional amounts paid to such personnel6shall not exceed the following:7(A) Administrator of Court Reporters: $20,000 per8year;9(B) Deputy Administrator of Court Reporters:10$15,000 per year;11(C) Assistant Administrators of Court Reporters:12$13,000 per year;13(D) Reporter Supervisors: $10,000 per year.14(E) Assistant Reporter Supervisors: $5,000 per15year.16(2) Each of the secretarial and other support staff17authorized under this Section shall be paid a salary as18determined per year by the Supreme Court. 19 (Source: P.A. 86-1378.) 20 Section 99.
