90_SB0773 20 ILCS 2310/55.84 new Amends the Civil Administrative Code with respect to the powers and duties of the Department of Public Health. Requires the Department to establish an ovarian cancer information program. Effective immediately. LRB9002087DJcd LRB9002087DJcd 1 AN ACT to amend the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois 2 by adding Section 55.84. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is 6 amended by adding Section 55.84 as follows: 7 (20 ILCS 2310/55.84 new) 8 Sec. 55.84. Ovarian cancer information program. 9 (a) The Department of Public Health shall establish an 10 ovarian cancer information program, which shall provide 11 information for providers of health care services and for 12 patients and other consumers concerning ovarian cancer. The 13 information shall include the signs and symptoms of ovarian 14 cancer, risk factors, the benefits of early detection of 15 ovarian cancer through appropriate diagnostic testing, and 16 treatment options. The program may include, but need not be 17 limited to, the following elements: 18 (1) Educational and informational materials in 19 print, audio, video, electronic, or other media. 20 (2) Public service announcements and 21 advertisements. 22 (3) The establishment of toll-free telephone 23 hotlines to provide information. 24 (b) The Department shall produce the materials described 25 in this Section or shall contract with others for the 26 production of those materials or otherwise make those 27 materials available to others for reproduction, as the 28 Director of Public Health determines is appropriate. The 29 Department shall make the materials available to the public 30 without charge, as appropriate, or for a fee under certain 31 circumstances, as determined by the Director. As determined -2- LRB9002087DJcd 1 appropriate by the Director, the Director shall require that 2 providers of health care services make the materials 3 available to patients. 4 (c) In implementing this Section, the Director of Public 5 Health shall consult with appropriate health care 6 professionals and other providers of health care services, 7 patients and other consumers of health care services, and 8 organizations representing any of those persons or entities. 9 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 10 becoming law.
