SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Helen J. Anderson of Hinsdale, who passed away on November 7, 2010; and

WHEREAS, She was extremely proud of her family and her Welsh heritage; she was smart, creative, and had a quick wit; she often referred to herself and her husband as "a good team"; her husband frequently announced that she was "the prettiest bride of the 50's", a good wife, and a superb writer; and

WHEREAS, She was born and raised in the Chicago area, and later attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison as her father had before her; she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and graduated with a degree in journalism; and

WHEREAS, She was an accomplished journalist and managing editor of 2 national publications, "Small Homes Guide" and "Home Modernizing"; she also worked as a freelance travel and feature writer for the Chicago Tribune for many years; one of her proudest accomplishments was to have one of her travel stories on France on the cover of the travel section of the Chicago Tribune; and

WHEREAS, She believed in doing research for her stories the "old fashioned way" by going to the library and talking to people as opposed to using the Internet; she loved traveling with her family and enjoyed painting and writing poetry; she was very generous and contributed annually to many organizations, including the Union Church of Hinsdale, where she had been a Sunday school teacher, and the Rush University Medical Center, where she, like her mother, had served on the Women's Board; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Maldwyn L. and Catherine P. Jones; and her sister, Marian J. Hansen; and

WHEREAS, She was the loving wife for 57 years of Alan Frederick Anderson; the beloved mother of Cathy L. Anderson and Nancy J. Anderson; and the fond aunt of Catherine A. and David J. Hansen; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Helen Anderson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Helen Anderson as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
