SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Helen J. Anderson of Hinsdale, who passed
4away on November 7, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was extremely proud of her family and her
6Welsh heritage; she was smart, creative, and had a quick wit;
7she often referred to herself and her husband as "a good team";
8her husband frequently announced that she was "the prettiest
9bride of the 50's", a good wife, and a superb writer; and
 
10    WHEREAS, She was born and raised in the Chicago area, and
11later attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison as her
12father had before her; she was a member of the Alpha Gamma
13Delta sorority and graduated with a degree in journalism; and
 
14    WHEREAS, She was an accomplished journalist and managing
15editor of 2 national publications, "Small Homes Guide" and
16"Home Modernizing"; she also worked as a freelance travel and
17feature writer for the Chicago Tribune for many years; one of
18her proudest accomplishments was to have one of her travel
19stories on France on the cover of the travel section of the
20Chicago Tribune; and
 
21    WHEREAS, She believed in doing research for her stories the

1"old fashioned way" by going to the library and talking to
2people as opposed to using the Internet; she loved traveling
3with her family and enjoyed painting and writing poetry; she
4was very generous and contributed annually to many
5organizations, including the Union Church of Hinsdale, where
6she had been a Sunday school teacher, and the Rush University
7Medical Center, where she, like her mother, had served on the
8Women's Board; and
 
9    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Maldwyn
10L. and Catherine P. Jones; and her sister, Marian J. Hansen;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, She was the loving wife for 57 years of Alan
13Frederick Anderson; the beloved mother of Cathy L. Anderson and
14Nancy J. Anderson; and the fond aunt of Catherine A. and David
15J. Hansen; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18her family and friends, the passing of Helen Anderson; and be
19it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Helen Anderson as a symbol of our
22sincere sympathy.
