| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Therese Suarez on the | 4 | | occasion of her retirement from St. Clair County after more | 5 | | than 35 years of service; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Therese Suarez began serving St. Clair County | 7 | | through the St. Clair Detention Facility in 1989; during her | 8 | | tenure, she has held many positions, including probation | 9 | | officer in 1995, domestic battery officer in 1999, and | 10 | | juvenile probation officer in 2000; she became an adult | 11 | | officer in 2001 and an administration officer in 2003; she was | 12 | | promoted to chief administration transfer officer in 2007 and | 13 | | was then named redeploy coordinator in 2011; lastly, she was | 14 | | promoted to supervisor in 2022; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Therese Suarez has served St. Clair County with | 16 | | distinction, ensuring the safety and security for all officers | 17 | | in the 20th Judicial Circuit and consistently seeking avenues | 18 | | to benefit her fellow officers, including being instrumental | 19 | | in obtaining new bullet proof vests for all officers in the | 20 | | circuit and working closely with outer county sheriff's | 21 | | departments to obtain radios for all officers in that area; | 22 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Therese Suarez originally earned a bachelor's | 2 | | degree in psychology from McKendree University in 1987; she | 3 | | has continued to pursue additional training and knowledge to | 4 | | better do her job and improve her skills in the field of social | 5 | | work and criminal justice, with her additional training | 6 | | including self-defense, safety awareness, motivational | 7 | | interviewing, Siemens Analyzer 9drug testing, crisis | 8 | | intervention, CPR/AED/First Aid, domestic violence, and | 9 | | firearms qualifications; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Therese Suarez has received several accolades, | 11 | | including a commendation from the St. Clair County Sheriff's | 12 | | Department for assistance with a juvenile murder case in 1991, | 13 | | a letter of appreciation from the Children's Center for | 14 | | Behavioral Development for speaking on probation services at | 15 | | the center in 1991, and a commendation from the Fairmont City | 16 | | Police Chief for conducting a field interview of an occupied | 17 | | vehicle in 1995, which resulted in four arrests and the | 18 | | recovery of a loaded firearm and drug contraband; she was | 19 | | named Employee of the Month in June 1991 and won the Pauline | 20 | | Gansauer Award from the Illinois Probation and Court Services | 21 | | Association for her dedication to the profession in 2021; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Despite her many responsibilities, Therese Suarez | 23 | | has continued to volunteer in her local community, mainly | 24 | | through working with youth and the Hispanic population; her |

| 1 | | volunteer efforts have included events for the foundation | 2 | | Tsunami Waves, and she has actively tried to develop new youth | 3 | | recreational activities and events; therefore, be it
| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 5 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 6 | | we congratulate Therese Suarez on the occasion of her | 7 | | retirement from St. Clair County after more than 35 years of | 8 | | service, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors; and | 9 | | be it further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to Therese Suarez as an expression of our esteem and | 12 | | respect.
