HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Therese Suarez on the
4occasion of her retirement from St. Clair County after more
5than 35 years of service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Therese Suarez began serving St. Clair County
7through the St. Clair Detention Facility in 1989; during her
8tenure, she has held many positions, including probation
9officer in 1995, domestic battery officer in 1999, and
10juvenile probation officer in 2000; she became an adult
11officer in 2001 and an administration officer in 2003; she was
12promoted to chief administration transfer officer in 2007 and
13was then named redeploy coordinator in 2011; lastly, she was
14promoted to supervisor in 2022; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Therese Suarez has served St. Clair County with
16distinction, ensuring the safety and security for all officers
17in the 20th Judicial Circuit and consistently seeking avenues
18to benefit her fellow officers, including being instrumental
19in obtaining new bullet proof vests for all officers in the
20circuit and working closely with outer county sheriff's
21departments to obtain radios for all officers in that area;
22and

1    WHEREAS, Therese Suarez originally earned a bachelor's
2degree in psychology from McKendree University in 1987; she
3has continued to pursue additional training and knowledge to
4better do her job and improve her skills in the field of social
5work and criminal justice, with her additional training
6including self-defense, safety awareness, motivational
7interviewing, Siemens Analyzer 9drug testing, crisis
8intervention, CPR/AED/First Aid, domestic violence, and
9firearms qualifications; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Therese Suarez has received several accolades,
11including a commendation from the St. Clair County Sheriff's
12Department for assistance with a juvenile murder case in 1991,
13a letter of appreciation from the Children's Center for
14Behavioral Development for speaking on probation services at
15the center in 1991, and a commendation from the Fairmont City
16Police Chief for conducting a field interview of an occupied
17vehicle in 1995, which resulted in four arrests and the
18recovery of a loaded firearm and drug contraband; she was
19named Employee of the Month in June 1991 and won the Pauline
20Gansauer Award from the Illinois Probation and Court Services
21Association for her dedication to the profession in 2021; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Despite her many responsibilities, Therese Suarez
23has continued to volunteer in her local community, mainly
24through working with youth and the Hispanic population; her

1volunteer efforts have included events for the foundation
2Tsunami Waves, and she has actively tried to develop new youth
3recreational activities and events; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Therese Suarez on the occasion of her
7retirement from St. Clair County after more than 35 years of
8service, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors; and
9be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Therese Suarez as an expression of our esteem and
12respect.
