| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend | 4 | | Manuel G. "Manny" Gómez Reza of Carpentersville, who passed | 5 | | away on December 26, 2019; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Father Gómez Reza was born in Súchil, Durango, | 7 | | México to Manuel Gómez Fernández and Julia Reza Serrato on | 8 | | December 2, 1983; he attended Minor Seminary in Durango, México | 9 | | from 1998 to 2001; he attended Major Seminary in Durango, | 10 | | México from 2001 to 2008, where he received a bachelor's in | 11 | | Philosophy in 2008; he came to the United States in 2010; he | 12 | | attended the St. Paul School of Divinity in St. Paul, Minnesota | 13 | | from 2010 to 2013; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Father Gómez Reza was ordained to the priesthood | 15 | | by Bishop David J. Malloy at the Cathedral of St. Peter in | 16 | | Rockford on June 22, 2013; he served as a Parochial Vicar at | 17 | | St. Mary in Huntley, St. Rita of Cascia in Aurora, and most | 18 | | recently at St. Monica in Carpentersville; he was also | 19 | | Associate Vocation Director and Assistant Diocesan Master of | 20 | | Ceremonies for the Rockford Diocese; in addition, he served as | 21 | | Spiritual Director for the Hispanic Catholic Cursillo movement | 22 | | for the diocese; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Father Gómez Reza was remembered by friends as | 2 | | being open, friendly, engaging, and able to relate to people of | 3 | | all ages; he was well loved by his family, his brother priests, | 4 | | and the people he served in his parish assignments; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Father Gómez Reza is survived by his parents; his | 6 | | sisters, Rosa Guadalupe Gómez Reza, Socorro Gómez Reza, Ana | 7 | | María Gómez Reza, and Angélica María Gómez Reza; his brother, | 8 | | Jesús Javier Gómez Reza; and many relatives in Mexico and in | 9 | | Chicago; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 11 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 12 | | we mourn the passing of Reverend Manuel G. "Manny" Gómez Reza | 13 | | and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and | 14 | | all who knew and loved him; and be it further
