| | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Without Limits - Team | | 4 | | Galaxy Special Olympics Cheer Team on the occasion of being | | 5 | | invited to be a part of the Special Olympics International | | 6 | | Cheer Team for the 2023 Special Olympics World Games; and
| | 7 | | WHEREAS, Without Limits - Team Galaxy Special Olympics | | 8 | | Cheer Team is one of five teams in the United States to be | | 9 | | selected as a part of the Special Olympics International Cheer | | 10 | | Team for the 2023 Special Olympics World Games, the world's | | 11 | | largest inclusive sports event, which will be held in Berlin, | | 12 | | Germany from June 17 to June 25, 2023; and
| | 13 | | WHEREAS, After cheer was recognized as a sport by Special | | 14 | | Olympics International, Without Limits - Team Galaxy Special | | 15 | | Olympics Cheer Team was formed by Kati Hassall in the fall of | | 16 | | 2019; unfortunately, the new team was paused due to the | | 17 | | COVID-19 pandemic, but the team was reinstated by Lisa Elbe in | | 18 | | July 2021; and
| | 19 | | WHEREAS, Without Limits - Team Galaxy Special Olympics | | 20 | | Cheer Team became the first Special Olympics Cheer Team of its | | 21 | | kind in Southern Illinois and is based in Belleville; and

| | 1 | | WHEREAS, Without Limits - Team Galaxy Special Olympics | | 2 | | Cheer Team has grown to include almost 30 members, ranging in | | 3 | | age from 11 to 30 years old, with its members representing a | | 4 | | variety of disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, | | 5 | | down syndrome, and DDX3X syndrome; and
| | 6 | | WHEREAS, Without Limits - Team Galaxy Special Olympics | | 7 | | Cheer Team has performed and continues to perform at local | | 8 | | Special Olympic events and other community events and parades; | | 9 | | and
| | 10 | | WHEREAS, Without Limits - Team Galaxy Special Olympics | | 11 | | Cheer Team is led by Cheer Coach Lisa Elbe; therefore, be it
| | 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | | 13 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | | 14 | | we congratulate Without Limits - Team Galaxy Special Olympics | | 15 | | Cheer Team on being invited to join the Special Olympics | | 16 | | International Cheer Team for the 2023 Special Olympics World | | 17 | | Games, and we wish the team continued success in its future | | 18 | | endeavors; and be it further
| | 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | | 20 | | presented to Cheer Coach Lisa Elbe as an expression of our | | 21 | | esteem and respect.
