| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Melba deane Booker, who passed away on | 4 | | August 24, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Melba Booker was born in Chicago to Ella Mae | 6 | | Washington and Felix Hoover Liddell on March 27, 1941; the | 7 | | eldest of two children, she attended Douglas Elementary School | 8 | | and Frances W. Parker High School; she committed to her faith | 9 | | at an early age; she married Cleophus Booker in 1964; the | 10 | | marriage ended, but they remained lifelong friends; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Melba Booker worked at the University of Chicago | 12 | | Hospital for five years; she retired from the United States | 13 | | Postal Service after 34 years of dedicated service, and as the | 14 | | TimeKeeper at Garfield Park Station received several | 15 | | recognitions and commendations; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Melba Booker was a longtime member of the First | 17 | | Unity Cathedral Church and a licensed minister; she remained | 18 | | close to her childhood friends, Joyce King and the late Norma | 19 | | Lee; she was a hard worker and an exquisite dresser; she was | 20 | | compassionate and generous; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Melba Booker was preceded in death by her parents; |

| 1 | | her brother, Frank; and her ex-husband, Cleophus; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Melba Booker is survived by her daughter, Drella | 3 | | (Thomas); her son, Eclenzo (LaTonja); her grandchildren, | 4 | | Kenzy, Ashanta, Thomas Jr., ShaRon, Chyealla (Christopher), | 5 | | Eclenzo, and Keziah; her great-grandson, Uriah; her niece, | 6 | | Antoinette; her nephew, Vincente; her goddaughters, Patrice, | 7 | | Sharnetta, and Marsha; her godson, Ferris; and her cousins, | 8 | | friends, and prayer partners; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Melba deane Booker and extend our sincere condolences to her | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Melba Booker as an expression of our | 16 | | deepest sympathy.
