SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard "Dick" Zaranto of Woodstock, who passed away on April 28, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Dick Zaranto was born in Chicago to Peter and Irene (Forsberg) Zaranto on January 26, 1927; he joined the United States Navy at the end of World War II in 1946; following his two-year term, he returned home and married Marilyn Ratajczak at Bethany Lutheran Church in Chicago on April 18, 1948; and

WHEREAS, Dick Zaranto was first employed by W.A. Brown Manufacturing Company in Chicago; in 1951, they asked him to move with the company to Woodstock, where he was plant manager for 25 years; he then got his real estate license and worked for Byrnes Bros. Realty, where he won many awards for sales; he also worked as a rural carrier for the Woodstock Post Office for 15 years; he retired in 1970; and

WHEREAS, Dick Zaranto was active in his community, including as a member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge, where he served as governor for two terms; and

WHEREAS, Dick Zaranto enjoyed fishing and golfing and was a great billiards player; he loved taking his family on camping trips; he was a loving husband and father, who instilled sound values in his children; and

WHEREAS, Dick Zaranto is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Kathleen (Jim) Lienlokken, Patricia Kyle, Mary (Rick Morreale) Zaranto, and Joseph Zaranto; his grandchildren, Brian, Thad, Jeremy, Gwenne, Marjorie, James, Nikki, and Jimmy; his 26 great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (Gene) Szydlowski; his niece, Linda (Steve) Maksinski; and his nephew, Dan Szydlowski; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard "Dick" Zaranto and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dick Zaranto as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
