HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate John Aranza on receiving the 32nd Annual Charles E. Piper Award; and

WHEREAS, The Charles E. Piper Award celebrates Berwyn's "Business Person of the Year" recognizing contributions to making Berwyn a better place to live; and

WHEREAS, John Aranza is a respected member of the Berwyn community; he has established two businesses and purchased a home in Berwyn; his business ventures include Horrorbles, a horror and collectibles memorabilia store, and the award-winning, Autre Monde Cafe & Spirits, which he operates with his wife, Christine Tully Aranza, and former colleagues and chefs, Dan Pancake, and Beth Partridge; and

WHEREAS, John Aranza has contributed to many community events, including the Berwyn Route 66 Car Show, Oktoberfest, The Moving Wall, the Green Mile Pub Crawl, and the Zombie Walk & Pub Crawl; his restaurant gives back to the community through Community Tuesdays where local not-for-profit charities received a portion of the restaurant's proceeds; the restaurant also has donated a greenhouse to the Berwyn Park District; and

WHEREAS, John Aranza served on the Board of Directors of the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) for six years and has been a business member of the BDC for 11 years; he has contributed to the creative success behind the city's "Why Berwyn?" integrated marketing campaign; and

WHEREAS, John Aranza grew up in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood; he received his bachelor's degree from Lewis University, where he majored in marketing and minored in business; he studied for his master's degree in theology at the University of Chicago; in his spare time, he enjoys watching movies, collecting memorabilia, and tinkering in woodworking; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate John Aranza on receiving the 32nd Annual Charles E. Piper Award, and we thank him for his contributions to the City of Berwyn; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to John Aranza as an expression of our esteem and respect.
