SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Village of Grayslake, in Lake County, is a beautiful, family-oriented community with a great spirit of service and pride; and

WHEREAS, Grayslake is a friendly community with a rich heritage and strong desire to help others; and

WHEREAS, Grayslake wishes to welcome and support its aging population, their families, caregivers, and friends with understanding and awareness of the aging process and inclusion within the community; and

WHEREAS, The first responders, the Grayslake Fire District and the Grayslake Police Department, have successfully completed training in April of 2016 and are the first adopters of a grassroots movement in making Grayslake a dementia-friendly community; and

WHEREAS, Proclaiming Grayslake as the first dementia-friendly community in Illinois will promote community pride and engage citizens in a warm and welcoming community movement; and

WHEREAS, This grassroots, community effort is receiving great support from local community businesses; and

WHEREAS, Grayslake restaurants, hair salons, financial institutions, legal institutions, and more will be known for their adoption of the dementia-friendly community; and

WHEREAS, Grayslake would like to be known as the first dementia-friendly community of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, This movement is a great example of community spirit for other Illinois communities to follow; and

WHEREAS, The people of Illinois and surrounding states are encouraged to visit Grayslake to experience a model community that welcomes and embraces those afflicted with dementia and offers acceptance and encouragement to families, caregivers, community members, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare Grayslake "Dementia-Friendly Community Day" to coincide with the Alzheimer's Association's "Longest Day of the Year" celebration on June 20, 2016, the summer solstice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Illinois Chapter and the Mayor of the Village of Grayslake.
