HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor the life of McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Dwight Maness, who recently passed away due to injuries suffered in the line of duty on October 16, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Maness served diligently as a McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy for nearly 8 years, placing service to the community and a desire to do right above all else; and

WHEREAS, Prior to joining the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Maness was a member of the United States Army, joining in 1986 and serving with distinction for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, During his Army service, Deputy Maness earned the distinction of becoming an Army Ranger; he served as a Ranger Instructor and served overseas during Desert Storm; he retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class; and

WHEREAS, Upon joining the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Maness attended the Police Training Institute, where he was awarded the Ervin A. Warren Award, given to the graduate who best exemplifies honor, integrity, and professionalism; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Maness utilized his knowledge and dedication to serve as a field training officer, SWAT team member, and first aid instructor; he received numerous letters of commendation and recognition; and

WHEREAS, On October 16, 2014, Deputy Maness and his partner, Deputy Khalia Satkiewicz, were wounded in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, For his actions, Deputy Maness was awarded a Purple Heart, named Officer of the Year by the Illinois Association of the Chiefs of Police, and awarded the Illinois State Police Medal of Honor; and

WHEREAS, Despite his injuries, Deputy Maness vowed to never give up during his road to recovery, pledging his dedication to walk again, return to duty, and continue his service to the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the life and service of Deputy Dwight Maness, whose dedication to his community, his nation, and public service will never be forgotten; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Deputy Maness as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
