SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

410 ILCS 535/24.2 new

Amends the Vital Records Act. Provides that the State Registrar of Vital Records or the local registrar shall disclose data about or issue a certified copy of a birth certificate of a child to the grandparent of the child upon the written request of the grandparent when the grandparent has demonstrated to the State Registrar of Vital Records or the local registrar evidence of need for the data or birth certificate. Effective immediately.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Vital Records Act is amended by adding Section 24.2 as follows:

(410 ILCS 535/24.2 new)

Sec. 24.2. Disclosure of information; grandparents. The State Registrar of Vital Records or the local registrar shall disclose data about or issue a certified copy of a birth certificate of a child to the grandparent of the child upon the written request of the grandparent when the grandparent has demonstrated to the State Registrar of Vital Records or the local registrar evidence of need for the data or birth certificate.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
