SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles "Chuck" Gutman, at the age of 48; and

WHEREAS, Charles Gutman was born to Shelley and Alfred "Bud" Gutman; and

WHEREAS, Charles Gutman began his teaching career in Compton, California through the Teach for America Program; he joined Waukegan High School in 2002 and taught social studies and Advancement Via Individual Determination; and

WHEREAS, Charles Gutman received the "Distinguished Alumni Award" from the Chicago-area chapter of Teach for America for his extraordinary leadership and significant achievement in expanding educational opportunity for children; and

WHEREAS, Charles Gutman touched the lives of many students as a teacher and college counselor at Waukegan High School, and as the founder of Envision Scholars, which he founded in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Charles Gutman was preceded in death by his father, Alfred; and

WHEREAS, Charles Gutman was the beloved son of Shelley Gutman; the cherished brother of Julie Gutman Dickinson and Pete Dickinson; the proud uncle of Lynda and Daniel Dickinson; he will be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles "Chuck" Gutman, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Gutman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
