SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles "Chuck" Gutman, at the age of 48;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Gutman was born to Shelley and Alfred
6"Bud" Gutman; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Charles Gutman began his teaching career in
8Compton, California through the Teach for America Program; he
9joined Waukegan High School in 2002 and taught social studies
10and Advancement Via Individual Determination; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Charles Gutman received the "Distinguished Alumni
12Award" from the Chicago-area chapter of Teach for America for
13his extraordinary leadership and significant achievement in
14expanding educational opportunity for children; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Charles Gutman touched the lives of many students
16as a teacher and college counselor at Waukegan High School, and
17as the founder of Envision Scholars, which he founded in 2011;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Charles Gutman was preceded in death by his
20father, Alfred; and

1    WHEREAS, Charles Gutman was the beloved son of Shelley
2Gutman; the cherished brother of Julie Gutman Dickinson and
3Pete Dickinson; the proud uncle of Lynda and Daniel Dickinson;
4he will be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and
5friends; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Charles "Chuck" Gutman, and extend our sincere condolences to
9his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Charles Gutman as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
