SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dorothy "Dottie" Byrn Spence, who passed away on September 17, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Spence was born on June 25, 1931, in Gallatin, Tennessee; his parents were Mary and Philip Maynard Byrn; she married George Spence in 1950; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Spence lived in Alton for over 50 years; she served on the Madison County Board, sold real estate, and devoted countless hours to P.E.O., the Community Service League, and the Easter Seals Society; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Spence enjoyed spending summers at a cottage in Chautauqua, spending time with her friends, nature, and playing bridge; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Spence was preceded in death by her husband, George; her sisters, Brodie Shaw and Marion Tobias; and her brother, James Byrn; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Spence is survived by her daughters, Lisa Spence Huber, Sharon Spence, and Dixie Spence Taylor; her grandchildren, John and Michael Huber (Margaret Rogers), Molly, William, and Paul (Teresa Feathers) Salomon, and Abby and Mary Caroline Taylor; and her great-granddaughter, Nora Feathers; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Dorothy "Dottie" Byrn Spence; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dorothy Spence as an expression of our sympathy.
