SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert Frei of Kirkwood, Missouri, who passed away on January 20, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Robert Frei was born on May 22, 1925; he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the art and medical departments; and

WHEREAS, Robert Frei successfully led one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious stained glass firms, Emil Frei and Associates, for almost 30 years; his works have graced more than 300 churches and institutions across the nation and have been recognized by countless experts as a vital step forward in the craft; in the St. Louis region, his work can be seen at places such as the New Cathedral Basilica, Resurrection Catholic Church, Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery Chapel, and the St. Louis Priory; his impact on the trade reverberated down the generations and he was instrumental in developing a method for faceted stained glass production that is still used industry-wide today; and

WHEREAS, Robert Frei enjoyed traveling the nation's parks in a camper with his wife and family; his many accomplishments included qualifying for the Olympics as a bicyclist; and

WHEREAS, Robert Frei is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Eckert Frei; his 4 sons, Stephen, Mark, Christopher, and David; his 10 grandchildren; and his 7 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert Frei, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Frei as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
