HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 2008, 6 million Americans did not vote because they missed a registration deadline or did not know how to register; and

WHEREAS, August 6 was the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 becoming law; and

WHEREAS, On September 22, 2015, volunteers, celebrities, and organizations from all over the country will partake in National Voter Registration Day activities, including various coordinated field, technology, and media efforts in order to create pervasive awareness of voter registration opportunities and enabling them to reach tens of thousands of voters who would not otherwise register to vote; and

WHEREAS, Many initiatives are being used to encourage people to partake in the democratic process, including the registration of voters, the mobilization of thousands of volunteers, the education of eligible voters, and a celebration of the rights that unite us as Americans; and

WHEREAS, The members of this body are proud to join in the concerted effort to ensure that all Americans become involved in the electoral process and make their voices count; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate September 22, 2015 as Voter Registration Day in the State of Illinois.
