HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, In 2008, 6 million Americans did not vote because
3they missed a registration deadline or did not know how to
4register; and
 
5    WHEREAS, August 6 was the 50th anniversary of the Voting
6Rights Act of 1965 becoming law; and
 
7    WHEREAS, On September 22, 2015, volunteers, celebrities,
8and organizations from all over the country will partake in
9National Voter Registration Day activities, including various
10coordinated field, technology, and media efforts in order to
11create pervasive awareness of voter registration opportunities
12and enabling them to reach tens of thousands of voters who
13would not otherwise register to vote; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Many initiatives are being used to encourage
15people to partake in the democratic process, including the
16registration of voters, the mobilization of thousands of
17volunteers, the education of eligible voters, and a celebration
18of the rights that unite us as Americans; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The members of this body are proud to join in the
20concerted effort to ensure that all Americans become involved
21in the electoral process and make their voices count;

2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4designate September 22, 2015 as Voter Registration Day in the
5State of Illinois.
