HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Albert John Tieken of Dixon, who passed away on June 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Albert Tieken was born in Oak Park to John and Wilhelmina (Honings) Tieken on April 21, 1929; he served in the United States Army and married Nellie Clausen in Sycamore on September 6, 1953; and

WHEREAS, Albert Tieken taught agriculture at Lee Center, Amboy, and Dixon High Schools prior to his retirement in 1986; after his retirement, he taught horticulture and landscaping at Sauk Valley Community College; he started the first recycling program in Dixon; and

WHEREAS, Albert Tieken was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon and American Legion Post 12; he was active in the Dixon Combined Veterans Group and was on the original Sugar Grove Church Restoration Committee; and

WHEREAS, Albert Tieken enjoyed joking and spending time with his grandchildren; he also enjoyed teaching music, playing the piano, beekeeping, wine and beer making, reading, traveling, hunting, the outdoors, and trying new foods; and

WHEREAS, Albert Tieken was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elaine Dufault; and

WHEREAS, Albert Tieken is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nellie; his children, Terri (State Senator Tim) Bivins, Deb Tieken Catalina (Jim Nagy), and Bob (Barb) Tieken; his grandchildren, Lindsey (Billy) Johnson, Ryan (Jordan) Bivins, Chris (Letha) Catalina, Brian (Tina) Catalina, Gabriel Tieken, Sarah (Greg) Myers, and Caleb Tieken; his step-grandchildren, Stephanie (Dave) Hanrahan and Jake (Rose) Angleton; and 23 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Albert John Tieken, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Albert Tieken as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
