HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Annika Huprikar, a resident of Deerfield and a student at Alan B. Shepard Middle School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious award honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

WHEREAS, Annika Huprikar earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy; she worked with her brother to establish "Music is Medicine", a program that combines their deep passion for music with a desire to serve those who suffer from Alzheimer's disease and dementia; and

WHEREAS, Music therapy has been shown to assist Alzheimer's and dementia patients by creating a connection between music and memory; and

WHEREAS, "Music is Medicine" wishes to share the brighter side of life through the glory of music; and

WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Annika Huprikar, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate and honor Annika Huprikar as a recipient of a Prudential Spirit of Community Award, recognize her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and extend best wishes for her continued success and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Annika Huprikar as an expression of our esteem and respect.
