HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Annika Huprikar, a resident of Deerfield and a
3student at Alan B. Shepard Middle School, has achieved national
4recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2016
5Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
 
6    WHEREAS, This prestigious award honors young volunteers
7across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary
8commitment to serving their communities; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Annika Huprikar earned this award by giving
10generously of her time and energy; she worked with her brother
11to establish "Music is Medicine", a program that combines their
12deep passion for music with a desire to serve those who suffer
13from Alzheimer's disease and dementia; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Music therapy has been shown to assist Alzheimer's
15and dementia patients by creating a connection between music
16and memory; and
 
17    WHEREAS, "Music is Medicine" wishes to share the brighter
18side of life through the glory of music; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength
20of our communities, and the overall vitality of American

1society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young
2people like Annika Huprikar, who use their considerable talents
3and resources to serve others; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6congratulate and honor Annika Huprikar as a recipient of a
7Prudential Spirit of Community Award, recognize her
8outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and
9community spirit, and extend best wishes for her continued
10success and happiness; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Annika Huprikar as an expression of our esteem and
13respect.
