SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph Paul Maher Jr. of Alton, who passed away on October 16, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born in Alton on April 10, 1927, the son of Joseph Paul and Myrtle (Dwiggins) Maher Sr; he married Alice Marie Noll on September 11, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton; and

WHEREAS, He served his country in the Army and Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1948, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, where he served as an usher; he was a member of the Alton Knights of Columbus, loved to play cards with his family, and was a member of the Alton Eagles 254; and

WHEREAS, He worked for Amoco Refinery and retired in 1985 after 40 years of service, and also served as an alderman for the city of Alton for 25 years; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister and brother-in-law, June and Lyle Ganter; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Maher Jr. is survived by his wife, Alice Marie; his five children and their spouses; Linda and John Battuello, Michael J. Maher, Terry and Robin Maher, Cindy and Linda George, and Chris and Tamara Maher; his grandchildren and their spouses, John and Mary Battuello, Brian Battuello, Patrick Battuello, Katie Maher, Luke, Adam, and Madison Maher, Thomas and Rachel Maher, and Christopher, Ariel, and Danielle Maher; his four siblings and their spouses, Dave and Cleo Maher, Larry and Mareen Maher, Mary Ann and Fred Hentricks, and Mike and Peggy Maher of Godfrey; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Paul Maher Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph Paul Maher Jr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
