SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph Paul Maher Jr. of Alton, who
4passed away on October 16, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born in Alton on April 10, 1927, the son of
6Joseph Paul and Myrtle (Dwiggins) Maher Sr; he married Alice
7Marie Noll on September 11, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church
8in Alton; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He served his country in the Army and Merchant
10Marines from 1944 to 1948, and was a member of St. Mary's
11Catholic Church in Alton, where he served as an usher; he was a
12member of the Alton Knights of Columbus, loved to play cards
13with his family, and was a member of the Alton Eagles 254; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He worked for Amoco Refinery and retired in 1985
15after 40 years of service, and also served as an alderman for
16the city of Alton for 25 years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and his
18sister and brother-in-law, June and Lyle Ganter; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Joseph Maher Jr. is survived by his wife, Alice
20Marie; his five children and their spouses; Linda and John

1Battuello, Michael J. Maher, Terry and Robin Maher, Cindy and
2Linda George, and Chris and Tamara Maher; his grandchildren and
3their spouses, John and Mary Battuello, Brian Battuello,
4Patrick Battuello, Katie Maher, Luke, Adam, and Madison Maher,
5Thomas and Rachel Maher, and Christopher, Ariel, and Danielle
6Maher; his four siblings and their spouses, Dave and Cleo
7Maher, Larry and Mareen Maher, Mary Ann and Fred Hentricks, and
8Mike and Peggy Maher of Godfrey; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Paul Maher Jr.;
12and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Joseph Paul Maher Jr. as a symbol of
15our sincere sympathy.
