SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leonard A. Karuzis Sr. of Westville, who passed away on December 24, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Karuzis Sr. was born on September 4, 1934, in Westville; he was the son of Andrew and Julia (Galius) Karushis; he married Ruth Coan on June 16, 1956, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Westville; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Karuzis Sr. was employed at General Motors for 3 years; he served in the United States Air Force for 4 years before starting a 38-year career at HeatCraft; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Karuzis Sr. was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and member of the St. Mary's Rosary Group; he also served as a Democratic committeeman in the Georgetown 5th Precinct; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Karuzis Sr. enjoyed painting shirts for the kids during the Christmas season; he was also an avid Cubs, Notre Dame, and Bears fan and enjoyed working in his vegetable garden every year; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Karuzis Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Barbara Karuzis; and his sister, Sylvia Nagrodski; and

WHEREAS, Leonard Karuzis Sr. is survived by his wife; his sons, Michael (Tina) Karuzis and Lenny (Lisa) Karuzis; his daughters, Margaret Karuzis, Rose Karuzis, and Ruthie (Mike) Crawford; his 14 grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Andrew (Joyce) Karushis; and his sisters, Alberta (Dean) Blakeney, Christine Karushis, and Marianne Moreman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Leonard A. Karuzis Sr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leonard Karuzis Sr. as an expression of our sympathy.
