SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James E. Lind, who passed away on October 8, 2009; and

WHEREAS, James Lind was born in Lemont; he earned 4 varsity letters in basketball and 3 letters in football at Lemont High School, throwing 13 touchdown passes for the 1945 football team; in 2008, he was named to the Lemont High School's Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, After high school, James Lind attended North Central College in Naperville, where he helped the team to back-to-back seven-win seasons in 1946 and 1947; he earned his bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 1950 and his master's degree in education from Northern Illinois University in 1964; and

WHEREAS, After taking a number of teaching jobs downstate, James Lind took a job teaching biology at Downers Grove North in 1955; a year later, he became an assistant football coach under legendary head coach Dick Carstens, for whom the school's football stadium is named; and

WHEREAS, In 1957, James Lind was one of 8 teachers who were asked to help start Downers Grove North's guidance department; for the next decade, he served as both a biology teacher and a guidance counselor; in 1967, he became a full-time guidance counselor; and

WHEREAS, In 1977, James Lind stepped down from coaching football and started working as a driver at Argonne National Laboratory during the summers; in 1989, he retired as a guidance counselor; and

WHEREAS, James Lind is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosalie; his daughters, Lauren Hoffman, Lisa Kean, Jenifer, and Julie; his sisters, Caryl Garling and Virginia Connelly; and his 5 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of James E. Lind; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Lind as an expression of our sympathy.
