SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of James E. Lind, who passed away on October
4 8, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, James Lind was born in Lemont; he earned 4 varsity
6 letters in basketball and 3 letters in football at Lemont High
7 School, throwing 13 touchdown passes for the 1945 football
8 team; in 2008, he was named to the Lemont High School's Hall of
9 Fame; and
 
10     WHEREAS, After high school, James Lind attended North
11 Central College in Naperville, where he helped the team to
12 back-to-back seven-win seasons in 1946 and 1947; he earned his
13 bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 1950 and
14 his master's degree in education from Northern Illinois
15 University in 1964; and
 
16     WHEREAS, After taking a number of teaching jobs downstate,
17 James Lind took a job teaching biology at Downers Grove North
18 in 1955; a year later, he became an assistant football coach
19 under legendary head coach Dick Carstens, for whom the school's
20 football stadium is named; and
 
21     WHEREAS, In 1957, James Lind was one of 8 teachers who were

1 asked to help start Downers Grove North's guidance department;
2 for the next decade, he served as both a biology teacher and a
3 guidance counselor; in 1967, he became a full-time guidance
4 counselor; and
 
5     WHEREAS, In 1977, James Lind stepped down from coaching
6 football and started working as a driver at Argonne National
7 Laboratory during the summers; in 1989, he retired as a
8 guidance counselor; and
 
9     WHEREAS, James Lind is survived by his wife of 59 years,
10 Rosalie; his daughters, Lauren Hoffman, Lisa Kean, Jenifer, and
11 Julie; his sisters, Caryl Garling and Virginia Connelly; and
12 his 5 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15 his family and friends, the passing of James E. Lind; and be it
16 further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of James Lind as an expression of our
19 sympathy.
