SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of United States Army Private First Class E3 Devin Michel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Stockton, who was killed in the line of duty while serving in the Zhari District, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, on October 24, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born on August 3, 1990, the son of Terry and Rebecca (Broshous) Michel; he was a 2008 graduate of Stockton High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball, and was a member of the band; and

WHEREAS, After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army; he began basic training on June 14, 2008, stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia; after basic he was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado, in the 4th Infantry; and

WHEREAS, On October 3, 2008, he and Anika Entmeier were married; on May 30, 2009, he was deployed on his first tour of duty; and

WHEREAS, Devin enjoyed playing sports, his dog, Jade, and playing drums; and

WHEREAS, Private First Class Devin Michel is survived by his wife, Anika (Entmeier) Michel; his parents, Terry and Rebecca Michel; his sisters, Holly and Catey Michel; his grandparents, Elmer and Lois Miller and Rod and Kathryn Broshous; and his great-grandmother, Winnifred (Harold Gallagher) Luke; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation, the passing of United States Army PFC E3 Devin Michel; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Devin Michel and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of United States Army Private First Class E3 Devin Michel as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
