SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas G. Shaughnessy of Berwyn; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Shaughnessy served his country with pride and distinction as a member of the United States Navy on the USS Yorktown during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Shaughnessy served as the Mayor of the City of Berwyn from 1993 to 2005; prior to his service as Mayor, he served as Berwyn's city clerk for 12 years; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Mayor, Thomas Shaughnessy was instrumental in helping to create what is now the Berwyn Public Library; the building now carries his name; he was also instrumental in getting the city's new police department built; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Shaughnessy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Shaughnessy and Margaret (William) Quirk; his aunts, Martha Kadish and Blanche Phillips; and his brother-in-law, Jack Thomas; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Shaughnessy was the beloved husband of Beverly Ann, nee Thomas; the loving father of Thomas Gregory Jr. (Kathy) and Patricia Lynn (Mark) Kennedy; the cherished grandfather of Bryan, Kelly (Jason) Sheehan, Courtney (Jon) Kotloski, Daniel, Ashley Kennedy, Leigha Kennedy, and Jack Kennedy; the great-grandfather of Jack, Patrick Sheehan, James Sheehan, Kate Sheehan, Matthew Kotloski, and Mae Kotloski; the dear brother-in-law of Lorraine Zellig and Marilyn Thomas; and the fond uncle of Laura Saylor, Kimberly Saka, and Kerri Cardamone; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Thomas G. Shaughnessy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas Shaughnessy as an expression of our sympathy.
