SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas L. Sassman of Pekin, who passed away on February 13, 2009; and

WHEREAS, He was born on February 25, 1940, in Tazewell County to Lorn and Bessie Faye (Romans) Sassman; he married Karen Kay Johnson on August 19, 1962, in Pekin; and

WHEREAS, He was a United States Army veteran; he worked for the Pekin Park District for 18 years in many different capacities, including superintendent; he then worked for the City of Pekin as Superintendent of Streets for 18 years; following retirement, he was the caretaker of Soldwedel Estates for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, He was a former member and past president of the Pekin Chapter of AMBUCS; he also was a former volunteer for the Central Illinois Dream Factory; he was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin; he also served on the Dillon Cemetery Board; his focus was his children and grandchildren, and he took great pride in attending their activities; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ray Sassman; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Sassman is survived by his wife, Karen; his son, Doug (Dr. Donna) Sassman; his daughter, Lori Shutt; his grandchildren, Erica Shutt, Heidi Shutt, and Caleb Shutt; his brother, Harold (Doris) Sassman; his sisters, Darlene (Lloyd) Buttry, Fannie (Everett) Look, and Etta (Delbert) Coggins; his stepmother, Kathleen Sassman; and his five stepbrothers and four stepsisters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Thomas Sassman; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas Sassman as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
