SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Thomas L. Sassman of Pekin, who passed
4 away on February 13, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on February 25, 1940, in Tazewell
6 County to Lorn and Bessie Faye (Romans) Sassman; he married
7 Karen Kay Johnson on August 19, 1962, in Pekin; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He was a United States Army veteran; he worked for
9 the Pekin Park District for 18 years in many different
10 capacities, including superintendent; he then worked for the
11 City of Pekin as Superintendent of Streets for 18 years;
12 following retirement, he was the caretaker of Soldwedel Estates
13 for 10 years; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He was a former member and past president of the
15 Pekin Chapter of AMBUCS; he also was a former volunteer for the
16 Central Illinois Dream Factory; he was a faithful member of
17 Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin; he also served on the
18 Dillon Cemetery Board; his focus was his children and
19 grandchildren, and he took great pride in attending their
20 activities; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and his

1 brother, Ray Sassman; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Thomas Sassman is survived by his wife, Karen; his
3 son, Doug (Dr. Donna) Sassman; his daughter, Lori Shutt; his
4 grandchildren, Erica Shutt, Heidi Shutt, and Caleb Shutt; his
5 brother, Harold (Doris) Sassman; his sisters, Darlene (Lloyd)
6 Buttry, Fannie (Everett) Look, and Etta (Delbert) Coggins; his
7 stepmother, Kathleen Sassman; and his five stepbrothers and
8 four stepsisters; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11 his family and friends, the passing of Thomas Sassman; and be
12 it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Thomas Sassman as a symbol of our
15 sincere sympathy.
