SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Claude Gamble, who passed away on October 22, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Claude Gamble was born on January 13, 1919, in Clinton, Mississippi; he was born to the union of James Gamble and Emma Warner; and

WHEREAS, Claude Gamble received his formal education in Clinton and Bolton, Mississippi; he and his family lived in Jackson, Mississippi before he migrated north to Hammond, Indiana, where he continued his education; and

WHEREAS, Claude Gamble enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Benjamin Harris on June 10, 1941 and served until his honorable discharge on December 5, 1945; during his stint with the Army, he fought in World War II and received several military honors, including the American Defense Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Service Star, and the World War II Victory Medal; during this time, he married Lucy Rogers; together, the couple had one child and raised 2 children; and

WHEREAS, After completing his service with the military, Claude Gamble returned to Hammond, Indiana and began working at Pullman and American Steele, where he retired after 25 years; he later met and married his soul mate, Dorothy Graves; the couple subsequently moved to Chicago and raised their children; and

WHEREAS, Claude Gamble was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy; his parents; and his brothers, Deather, Willie Bee, Lucy, and Lonnie; and

WHEREAS, Claude Gamble is survived by his children, Willie Earl (Rosalyn), Brenda (Deloise), Sheilah, Yolanda (Keith), Keith, Kim, and Brian (Ruthie); his grandchildren, Willena, Jacquelin, Dawn, Dante, Danye, Bria, Jakobi, Kyndra, and Brooke Dakota; his 8 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Tom, Jr. and Ocie; his sister, Sarah (Eddie); his special cousin, Eddie Davis; and his buddy, Jerry Griffin; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Claude Gamble; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Claude Gamble as an expression of our sympathy.
