SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Claude Gamble, who passed away on October
422, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Claude Gamble was born on January 13, 1919, in
6Clinton, Mississippi; he was born to the union of James Gamble
7and Emma Warner; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Claude Gamble received his formal education in
9Clinton and Bolton, Mississippi; he and his family lived in
10Jackson, Mississippi before he migrated north to Hammond,
11Indiana, where he continued his education; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Claude Gamble enlisted in the United States Army
13at Fort Benjamin Harris on June 10, 1941 and served until his
14honorable discharge on December 5, 1945; during his stint with
15the Army, he fought in World War II and received several
16military honors, including the American Defense Ribbon, the
17American Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the
18Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Service Star, and
19the World War II Victory Medal; during this time, he married
20Lucy Rogers; together, the couple had one child and raised 2
21children; and

1    WHEREAS, After completing his service with the military,
2Claude Gamble returned to Hammond, Indiana and began working at
3Pullman and American Steele, where he retired after 25 years;
4he later met and married his soul mate, Dorothy Graves; the
5couple subsequently moved to Chicago and raised their children;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Claude Gamble was preceded in death by his loving
8wife, Dorothy; his parents; and his brothers, Deather, Willie
9Bee, Lucy, and Lonnie; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Claude Gamble is survived by his children, Willie
11Earl (Rosalyn), Brenda (Deloise), Sheilah, Yolanda (Keith),
12Keith, Kim, and Brian (Ruthie); his grandchildren, Willena,
13Jacquelin, Dawn, Dante, Danye, Bria, Jakobi, Kyndra, and Brooke
14Dakota; his 8 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Tom, Jr. and
15Ocie; his sister, Sarah (Eddie); his special cousin, Eddie
16Davis; and his buddy, Jerry Griffin; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19his family and friends, the passing of Claude Gamble; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Claude Gamble as an expression of
