HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Craig Hentrich on the occasion of his retirement after 17 seasons in the NFL; and

WHEREAS, Craig Hentrich grew up in Godfrey and attended Alton Marquette High School; during high school, he lettered 4 times in football and baseball and once in basketball; in football, he served as a kicker, punter, safety, and quarterback and was an All-America selection by Parade, SuperPrep, and USA Today; he punted 98 times for a 42.7 yard average for the Explorers and set the State record with 26 career field goals on 44 attempts; and

WHEREAS, Craig Hentrich lettered for 4 years at Notre Dame from 1989 to 1992, serving as both the placekicker and punter on Notre Dame's football team while pursuing a degree in management information systems; he finished his career with a school-record 44.1-yard punting average, 39 career field goals on 56 attempts, 294 points (2nd all-time leading scorer), and made a record 98.3% of his PAT attempts; he also earned an honorable mention All-America selection by Football News as a punter during each of his last 3 seasons; and

WHEREAS, Craig Hentrich was an eighth-round NFL draft pick out of Notre Dame in 1993; he played with the Green Bay Packers when they won Super Bowl XXXI; and

WHEREAS, Craig Hentrich spent the past 12 seasons playing for the Tennessee Titans; he averaged 42.9 yards per punt on 1,150 attempts during his career; he was with the Titans when they played in Super Bowl XXXIV; and

WHEREAS, Craig Hentrich was picked to play in the Pro Bowl in 1998 and 2003; and

WHEREAS, Craig Hentrich regularly participates in charity golf tournaments, including his own annual event in Alton, which has benefited the Boys and Girls Club for 15 consecutive years; and

WHEREAS, Craig Hentrich serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Craig Hentrich on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Craig Hentrich as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
