HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Audria Thomas-Huntington on the occasion of her 80th birthday on September 15, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington attended Pipe Shop Elementary School and Dumbar Elementary School in Bessemer, Alabama; she graduated from Arthur Harold Parker Vocational High School in Birmingham, Alabama; she then earned her bachelor's degree in vocational home economics from Alabama A&M University and her master's degree from Northern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington had a long and distinguished career in education; during her 44 years of dedicated service, she taught in grades 2 through college level in such places as Dixons Mills, Alabama, the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA in Atlanta, Georgia, and various Chicago Public Schools; she also taught at the Office of Equal Education Opportunity, the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center School, the Cook County Jail, the Illinois Training Schools for Girls in Geneva, and the First Cataract School in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington has received numerous awards and certificates from many civic and educational organizations, including the American Correctional Association, the College Park Maryland Illinois Branch, the Governor of Alabama, the Chicago Department of Aging, Girls and Boys Town, the National Silver Haired Congress, the World's Who's Who of Women, the International Who's Who of Intellectuals, and the International Register Profile; and

WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington has served as Chairperson for the CDOA Senior Citizen's Advisory Council; she was the chair of the 34th Legislative District's Senior Advisory Council and the vice-president of the National Silver Haired Congress; she is also a member of the Old St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the Alabama A&M University Alumni Association; and

WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington is the loving mother of Shirley Thomas, the grandmother of Angela Thomas, and the great-grandmother of Royal Charles, Victoria Charles, Joel Charles, and Sarai Charles; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Audria Thomas-Huntington on the occasion of her 80th birthday and wish her many more happy and healthy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Audria Thomas-Huntington as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
