HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Audria
4 Thomas-Huntington on the occasion of her 80th birthday on
5 September 15, 2009; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington attended Pipe Shop
7 Elementary School and Dumbar Elementary School in Bessemer,
8 Alabama; she graduated from Arthur Harold Parker Vocational
9 High School in Birmingham, Alabama; she then earned her
10 bachelor's degree in vocational home economics from Alabama A&M
11 University and her master's degree from Northern Illinois
12 University; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington had a long and
14 distinguished career in education; during her 44 years of
15 dedicated service, she taught in grades 2 through college level
16 in such places as Dixons Mills, Alabama, the Phyllis Wheatley
17 YWCA in Atlanta, Georgia, and various Chicago Public Schools;
18 she also taught at the Office of Equal Education Opportunity,
19 the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center School, the Cook
20 County Jail, the Illinois Training Schools for Girls in Geneva,
21 and the First Cataract School in Chicago; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington has received numerous

1 awards and certificates from many civic and educational
2 organizations, including the American Correctional
3 Association, the College Park Maryland Illinois Branch, the
4 Governor of Alabama, the Chicago Department of Aging, Girls and
5 Boys Town, the National Silver Haired Congress, the World's
6 Who's Who of Women, the International Who's Who of
7 Intellectuals, and the International Register Profile; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington has served as
9 Chairperson for the CDOA Senior Citizen's Advisory Council; she
10 was the chair of the 34th Legislative District's Senior
11 Advisory Council and the vice-president of the National Silver
12 Haired Congress; she is also a member of the Old St. Patrick
13 Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the Alabama A&M
14 University Alumni Association; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Audria Thomas-Huntington is the loving mother of
16 Shirley Thomas, the grandmother of Angela Thomas, and the
17 great-grandmother of Royal Charles, Victoria Charles, Joel
18 Charles, and Sarai Charles; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21 congratulate Audria Thomas-Huntington on the occasion of her
22 80th birthday and wish her many more happy and healthy years to
23 come; and be it further
