HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lance Corporal James Bray Stack who gave his life in service of our Nation on November 10, 2010, in the Sangin District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal James Bray Stack was born July 11, 1990 in Schaumburg, the son of Robert Bruce Stack and Linda Lorraine (nee Bray) Stack; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal James Bray Stack was home-schooled with the Christian Liberty Academy at Arlington Heights curriculum, played soccer with Christian Liberty Academy, was named Most Valuable Player on the school's track team, and met his future wife, Katelyn "Kate" Landeweer, at the Academy; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal James Bray Stack was a rifleman (0311) assigned to India Company (2nd Platoon) of the Darkhorse 3/5 Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Camp Pendleton, California; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal James Bray Stack's awards for personal service include the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal; and

WHEREAS, United States and Illinois State flags throughout the State will fly at half-staff from November 18-20, 2010, as a symbol of mourning and honor for the sacrifice of Lance Corporal James Bray Stack; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal James Bray Stack will be remembered for faith in Christ, love of country, generous spirit, patriotism, and love for his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal James Bray Stack is survived by his wife, Kate; his 1-year-old daughter; Mikayla; his parents, Robert and Linda Stack; his sister, Megan Lorraine Stack; his grandparents, Jo Ann Stack and Gene Bray; his mother-in-law, Dawn (Tom) Hedrick; his sister-in-law, Joanne Savage; Katie's grandmother, Eleanor Savage; and his father-in-law, Michael Landeweer; as well as his fellow soldiers and the citizens of a grateful nation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Lance Corporal James Bray Stack; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal James Bray Stack and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lance Corporal James Bray Stack as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
