HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bloomington Police Sergeant Larry E. Shepherd on his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Bloomington Police Sergeant Larry E. Shepherd began his career as a Bloomington Police officer on September 24, 1979; Sergeant Shepherd served in the patrol division working all three shifts until January of 1991; and

WHEREAS, Larry Shepherd became a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division in January of 1991 until February 2, 2002, when he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant; during his service in the Criminal Investigation Division, Sergeant Shepherd either assisted or was the case agent in some of Bloomington's most serious and high profile criminal investigations; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Shepherd remained with the Criminal Investigation Division until January 10, 2010, when he was transferred to Second Shift Patrol Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Shepherd, during his career at the Bloomington Police Department, received 29 letters of commendation, 3 unit citations, and received the meritorious service award for his distinguished service to the citizens of Bloomington; Sergeant Shepherd was also named the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bloomington Police officer of the year in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Shepherd was very active in the Bloomington PB and PA Unit #21, serving as Vice President for one year and recording secretary for four years; he assisted with, and participated in, many of the unit events; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Larry E. Shepherd will officially retire from the Bloomington Police Department on May 1, 2010 after 30 years of service; Sergeant Shepherd has proudly worn the uniform of the Bloomington Police Department and has endeavored to maintain a professional and positive image to the citizens of Bloomington and all citizens he has served; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Sergeant Shepherd on his retirement and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sergeant Larry E. Shepherd as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
